The first solo exhibition of Olga Horak OAM (1926–2024)

Olga Horak: In Her Light

Honouring Olga Horak: Artist, Author, and One of Australia’s Most Prominent Holocaust Survivors

    Opening event Tuesday 29 April 6 – 8 PM

    Exhibition dates 30 April – 1 June 2025

In Her Light is the first solo exhibition of Olga Horak OAM (1926–2024), presenting a remarkable lifetime of work across five gallery rooms. Featuring over 100 paintings, drawings, and select sculptures, it offers the first comprehensive showcase of her art, held posthumously.

Olga Horak (née Rosenberger) was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, and was the sole Holocaust survivor of her family. She endured the unimaginable horrors of Auschwitz, a death march, and Bergen-Belsen before migrating to Australia with her husband, John Horak, in 1949. While running a garment business, Olga remained devoted to painting and sculpting, creating a deeply moving and diverse body of work throughout her life. She also authored the memoir Auschwitz to Australia, chronicling her extraordinary journey of survival and renewal.

This exhibition celebrates Olga’s immense talent and honours her legacy, shining a light on an extraordinary life expressed through art.

In Her Light will run simultaneously with Chutzpah, a major international exhibition featuring some of the most outstanding Jewish artists, at the Jewish Museum of Australia.
